Stop chasing trends
Recently i was invited on a podcast, a wish that i had for a long time. My dear frient Nemanja Zivkovic from Funky Marketing and we’ve talked about building and/or creating a B2B brand. I’m kinda stubborn and i wanna say what i wanna say so i’ve talked about building a brand in general. At the closing session he asked me what would i say to upcoming brands, and the very first thing that came to my mind was
Now, don’t get me wrong. The people who define trends are some serious design thinkers, but when it comes to you as an individual or a brand, you can’t just copy and paste it into your life. It doesn’t work like that. I can’t really point out an example, because if there was one they’ve probably changed to this years trending style in design and i can’t remember them. Anyways, i can give you an example from my favorite rapper ICE CUBE. He’s known for the badass attitude, a man who says what he thinks. He called one of his best friend Benedict Arnold in a song. And on the same album he has a song Today was a good day. In that time, hard rap was going a bit soft, with bitches and hoes, everything funky. But he was real to his style, and in a blimp he added Today was a good day. Not the whole album, not the whole lifestyle, just one song. And that’s how you implement a trend in your brand.
Conclusion:
Your brand doesn’t need gradients that will be trending in 2022. Your brand doesn’t need Pantone’s Color of the year. Your brand needs attitude. For a change be the trend, don’t chase it.
Till next time,
bygoce.
